Has this Administration become so radicalized and bigoted that it can’t put a black woman on our $20 bill? Our currency reflects only white men; what about women?
And what about blacks who helped build our nation and make it strong? Must we kowtow to every demand of the white nationalists who monger hate and disrespect for others who don’t look like them?
In late 2016, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing completed a preliminary design of the bill depicting Harriet Tubman, the former slave and abolitionist, and moving Andrew Jackson, a slave owner and populist like Mr. Trump, to the back of the bill.
Yet the Treasury Department, headed by secretary Steven Mnuchin who oversees the engraving bureau, decided that a new $20 bill would not be made public next year as had been in the works before Mr. Trump came into office.
The New York Times reports that current and former department officials say Mr. Mnuchin chose the delay to avoid the possibility that Mr. Trump would cancel the plan outright and create even more controversy.
In fact, Mr. Trump had all the information about the bill – which used to appear on the White House website – removed as soon as he got into office, claiming it was just a politically correct move by the Obama Administration to have planned for the new bill.
The Administration now wants to delay the bill for six years “to build in new security features” to the note, with no promises it will feature Tubman after all. It’s just one disgraceful thing after the other with this Administration. When will it end?
